What to Look for in a Wedding Videographer
When choosing a videographer for your wedding there are a lot of things to choose from: what style you love, to how much you want to spend, etc. There are many considerations in choosing the videographers that you want. Here are our TOP 5 Things to Look for in a Wedding Videographer!
1. Style
When choosing a videographer, the number 1 thing to look for is a style that you love. This can be anything from light and airy, to dark and moody. You want a videographer that will capture and edit your day the way that you want it to be captured. Most videographers have some of their videos on their website that you can watch to see what type of style they have (It is always a good idea to watch several of them!)
2. Audio
The second most important thing in choosing a videographer is what type of audio you want in your video. Some entry-level videographers will only have music in the background; However, more experienced videographers will put music and talking/live audio from your wedding day. If this is not important to you then you do not need to worry about it. If you’re like me then you will want as much live audio as possible!
3. Lighting
Some videographers will not use any lighting equipment because it’s heavy and hard to lug around. We have found that if we do not set up lights during the reception, it can lead to footage that is dark and unusable. We set up at LEAST 2 lights during the reception, and during dancing, we use 3! Although lighting can be a little awkward, it will make your final video 10 times better!
4. How Many Videographers
The type of final video that you want will determine if you need 1 or 2 videographers to capture your day. We NEVER shoot with less than 2 videographers because we never want to miss a moment of our brides’ day. If you are only wanting a highlight-style film, then 1 videographer can be enough. However, if you want a feature-style or a documentary-style film then you will definitely need 2 videographers!
5. The Videographers Personality
The 5th and arguably most important thing to look for in your videographer is their personality. You will be spending your whole day with your photographers and videographers. If they have a bad attitude, then everyone else will feel it. When you work with a photographer and videographer who have personalities that you find personal, fun, and energetic then it will bring so much joy to your wedding day. Before you book with your videographer (or any other vendor), make sure you talk with them on the phone. Learn their personalities and know that you will enjoy your time with them because they will be living every moment with you!
